Baringo Women and Youth Organization
Baringo Women and Youth Organization (BWYO) is a community-based organization working with women, youth, Indigenous communities, and other marginalized groups in Baringo County, Kenya. Since our establishment in 2019, BWYO has worked to strengthen community voices and create opportunities for women and youth while responding to challenges such as climate change, environmental degradation, economic marginalization, gender inequality, limited livelihood opportunities, and the erosion of Indigenous knowledge and cultural heritage.
Who We Are
Baringo Women and Youth Organization was established to support the Ilchamus community and other marginalized groups to address challenges affecting their lives and livelihoods.
Our work recognizes that environmental, social, economic, health, and cultural issues are interconnected. Climate change can affect food production and water access. Environmental degradation can undermine livelihoods. Economic vulnerability can increase risks for women and young people. At the same time, the loss of Indigenous knowledge and cultural practices can weaken community identity and resilience.
BWYO therefore takes an integrated approach. We work with communities to strengthen livelihoods, restore ecosystems, promote gender equality, improve access to information and services, strengthen youth participation, and protect Indigenous knowledge and cultural heritage.
